MIRACULOUS RAINBOWS

Enchanting! Will our wishes come true? The ones we wished the moment we thought we were passing under it. Having been raised in a wet climate, love the stormy weather, love to hear the sound of pouring rain. Have I ever told you that my daughter's name is Yağmur (Rain in Turkish)? Best in April. You cannot think anything more miraculous at the very moment you see the dazzling colors up in the sky. Even more fascinating when there are two!

Büyüleyici! Tuttuğumuz dilekler gerçekleşecek mi dersiniz? Altından geçtiğimizi düşündüğümüz anda dilediklerimiz. Yağmurlu bir iklimde büyümüş olmamdandır sanırım, çok severim fırtınalı, gökgürültülü havayı. Bayılırım bardaktan boşanırcasına yağan yağmurun sesine. Kızımın isminin Yağmur olduğunu söylemiş miydim daha önce? En güzeli Nisan Yağmuru. Gökyüzünde o göz kamaştırıcı renkleri gördüğü anda daha mucizevi birşey gelmiyor insanın aklına. Hele iki tanesine ne demeli!

ALL THAT JAZZ

 

Hey New Orleans, I feel like it is not done with you, I will see you later.. So many things to tell; most of all, of course jazz, jazz, jazz, then foooood, craziness on Bourbon :), romantic, classy restaurants, cafes, shops, history, culture. Unique, definitely a very different America. Fantastic, hope y'all ;) get to see.. The down side, I've put a few? pounds on :|

This post is about the music. It is everywhere, but one place everyone should visit and live, Preservation Hall. Preservation Hall Jazz Band or New Orleans Legacy Band are performing there every night. It is open for all ages :) Something is always nudging me to move, move your head, your shoulders, your fingers.. Durul Gence, from History of Jazz classes in college,  was so annoyed with the people who listen to jazz and stay put. Nobody could resist that jam session anyway.

Having seen all the characters in "The Princess and The Frog" were into jazz, my daughter enjoyed every note, as well. Again that reason left us so excited about the swamp tour, "bayou", and holding maybe not "Louis" but at least a relative. I will come back to the movie when I am talking about the food, and voodoo :)

New Orleans, bitmedi seninle işimiz, yeniden görüşmek üzere.. O kadar anlatılacak şey var ki; herşeyden önemlisi tabiki caz, caz ve caz. Sonra yemeeek, Bourbon'daki çılgınlık :), romantik, şık restoranlar, kafeler, dükkanlar, tarih, kültür. Benzersiz, kesinlikle çok farklı bir Amerika. Muhteşem, umarım hepiniz (y'all ;) ) görme fırsatı yakalayabilirsiniz birgün. Bir kötülüğü var ki, kilo aldııııım :|

Bu yazı müzik ile ilgili. Heryerde. Ama bir yer var ki herkes yaşamalı, Preservation Hall. Preservation Hall Caz veya New Orleans Legacy grubu her akşam sahnede. Her yaşa açık :) Caz dinlerken beni kımıldamaya dürten birşey var. Durul Gence, Caz Tarihi derslerimizde, caz dinlerken insanların kımıldamadan durmasını anlamadığını tekrarlardı. Kimsenin bu caz dinletisine karşı durabileceğini sanmıyorum zaten.

"Prenses ve Kurbağa" filmindeki tüm karakterlerin caz ile içiçe olduklarını gördükten sonra kızım da her notasını keyifle dinledi. Yine bu nedenden, hepimiz bataklık turu ve belki "Louis" değil ama minik akrabasını elimizde tutmak için çok heyecanlıydık. Filme yemek ve vudulardan bahsederken yeniden döneceğim :)

Should I Stay or Should I Go?

Well, of course I stay! Me leaving? Oh no! Have I ever left? That, I've done so many times. Biiigggg moves. But the point is, it was always "us" not only "me". I was not alone. In fact, I hate being alone. I always need company. Thank God, I have a beautiful family and friends. Hope everyone in the world has somebody to lean on.

Tabiki kalıyorum! Ben mi, gitmek mi? Hayır! Hiç ayrılmadım mı? Çooook kez yaptım. Uzuuuun, uzaaaak ayrılışlar. Ama herseferinde de "biz"dik ayrılan "ben" değil. Yalnız değildim ve yalnız olmayı hiç sevmem. Herzaman yanımda bir nefese ihtiyaç duyarım. Tü tü tü :) nazar değmesin, çok güzel bir ailem ve arkadaşlarım var. Umarım herkesin dayanabileceği birileri vardır yanında.

Merry Christmas everyone! Today was a beautiful day up in the mountains. Seeing my little princess loving skiing, playing snowball with my little monkey, priceless! So many good thoughts passed through my mind while I was on the lift, flying through the pure whiteness. Happy holidays to you all!

Bugün dağlarda harika bir gündü. Minik prensesimin kayak yapmayı sevdiğini görmek, minik maymunumla kartopu oynamak, paha biçilemez! Bembeyaz örtünün üzerinden geçerken çok güzel düşünceler geçti aklımdan. Hepinize iyi yıllar!

PALM SPRINGS

• In Coachella Valley, shooting Cocoa Puffs' ad. That was the goal of the journey. You can watch the ad here. No no, no link. Just kidding :)
• Took a looong walk in the desert to find the hidden lake, Thousand Palms Oasis. My memory is not clear now, I do not want to think it was a  mirage?!*%&
• Had a great time at the poolside. Sorry guys, I know it is not fair :| Can you imagine, not even two hours drive from here? :)

• Uzuuuuun bir yürüyüş sonrası Bin Palmiye Vahası'nda bulduk gizli gölü. Hafızam bulanık, o kadar yoldan sonra serap mı gördük yoksa?!*&%
• Havuz başında harika vakit geçirdik. Üzgünüm, biliyorum hiç adil değil :| İnanabiliyor musunuz, buradan iki saat bile sürmüyor? :)

OVERSIZED

I am right in front of Elyse Walker's famous boutique in Pacific Palisades, an affluent neighborhood, known as "Where The Mountains Meet the Sea" and is home to numerous Hollywood celebrities and luminaries. We like to explore all the neighborhoods by visiting their local cafes. My dad used to take us and show all the back streets of the city we used to live in. That might be why I always am curious about especially the dark streets of Beyoğlu, Istanbul. OK, I know, I digress. Well, do we have a subject anyway? I just write what I think at the moment :P

This jacket goes with everything (to me :) ), makes all outfits casual and easy. About the boots, well, I was looking for a leather pair but just couldn't find as low cut as I like. These are suede again :) I like the fact that you just pull them on. No zippers, no buckles, no laces :)

Tam da ünlü Elyse Walker butiğin önündeyim :) Pacific Palisades'te. Zengin bir semt. "Dağların Denize Kavuştuğu Yer" olarak biliniyor. Birçok ünlünün yaşadığı yer aynı zamanda. Tüm semtleri gezip, özellikle yerel kafelerinde oturup, öğrenmeyi seviyoruz. Babacığım da her pazar yaşadığımız şehrin tüm arka sokaklarını gezdirip gösterirdi bize :) Belki de ondandır, özellikle Beyoğlu'nun arka sokakları hep ilgimi çekmiştir. Tamam tamam konunun iyice dışına çıktım biliyorum. Ama konu yok ki zaten aklıma geleni yazmıyor muyum? :P

Bu ceket herşeyle oluyor, bana göre tabii :) Tüm kıyafetleri rahat ve sıradan yapabiliyor. Botlar ise, uzun zamandır deri aramama rağmen yine süet. Ama diğerlerinde bu kadar kısa, bileğin hemen altında duranını bulamadım. Sadece çekip ayağıma geçirebilmek de güzel. Fermuar, bağcık ya da toka yok :)

MALIBU

Anatolian Cultures and Food Festival

Atıl Kutoğlu t-shirt

Impressive! Very-well organized! I was very proud to show our rich culture with beautiful replicas to the world. I wore my crescent-star t-shirt by Atıl Kutoğlu for Fashion Targets Breast Cancer (FTBC), paired up with my beautiful aysedeniz silk pants. FTBC logo is on the bottom right side. By the way, aysedeniz is moving to a much bigger place and will be with you with more amazing designs.

We had a blast in the city of Mardin. Oh my, we watched the cook make çiğ köfte (steak tartare a la Turca ;) ), mouth watering process from the very beginning to the end along with live music. Yağmur wasn't really shy to ask for the 6th piece :D You can find detailed information about the festival here. I will write more about festival, traditional costumes.

Çok etkileyici! Özenle hazırlanmış! Zengin kültürümüzü güzel replikalarla dünyaya tanıtıyor olmak çok gurur vericiydi. Atıl Kutoğlu'nun Moda Meme Kanserine Karşı hareketi için tasarladığı Ay-yıldız tişörtümü, aysedeniz ipek pantolonumla birlikte giyindim. Moda Meme Kanserine Karşı logosu da sağ alt köşede. Bu arada, aysedeniz çok daha büyük bir yere geçiyor ve daha fazla muhteşem tasarımla sizlerle olacak.

Mardin'de çok eğlendik ;) Canlı müzik eşliğinde baştan sona ağzımız aka aka :) çiğ köfte yapılışını izledik. Yağmur 6'ncıyı isterken bile çekinmedi :D Festival hakkında daha detaylı bilgiye buradan ulaşabilirsiniz. Festival ve geleneksel kıyafetler hakkında yazmaya devam edeceğim.
