I thought my crystal drop necklace was kind of boring. Decided to add a twist with a neon yellow ribbon. Created a pattern in a way I make the friendship bracelets. Cheers with pineapple milk shake from Peggy Sue's diner on the way to Las Vegas ;)

Kristal taşlı kolyemin bir eksiği vardı, hissediyordum :) Neon sarısı kurdele ile renklendirmeye karar verdim. Bileklikleri yaptığım şekilde bir bağlama yolu izledim. Las Vegas yolundaki Peggy Sue's Diner'dan Ananas milk shake'i ile sağlığınıza ;)

My childhood was full of Burda magazines. We had to have a new outfıt or more every holiday. What an exciting process that was to dive into the magazines, to find what you want, to draw the dress patterns, to dream and picture yourself in it, to wait till the end (usually done not before the dawn of the first day of the holidays). Going to the fancy mancy stores (at least we used to think so by then) to get matching (or not) shoes. This story used to take place in my grandma's house with my mom, aunts, my sister and cousins. Moms were playing the helpers to the grandma. Well, since then apprentices have become the masters of course. I cannot say the same for the third generation (me, my sister and my cousins), though. My mom inherited the profession until.. Once ready-to-wear was more affordable, prevalent and charming, sewing machines suddenly turned into decorations in the houses. 

Enough about past, right? Couple days ago, my mom took me back to my childhood again when she sent these precious gifts. This skirt came with the blouse I mentioned in the previous posts. Back slit pencil skirt, little glasses on the smooth satin fabric. She did not even check the fit. She is that good, I am telling you ;)

Çocukluğum Burda dergilerinin arasında geçti. Her bayram yeni bir kıyafet giyinmek zorundayız diye bilirdik. Nasıl zevkliydi dergilerin içinde boğulup kıyafet seçmeye çalışmak, beğenmek, patronları çıkarmak, kendini onun içinde hayal etmek ve çoğunlukla bayram sabahına kadar uzayan son rötüşlerini beklemek. Cicili bicili ayakkabı mağazalarına (en azından o zamanlar öyle düşünüyorduk) gidip uygun (ya da değil) ayakkabılar almak. Bu hikaye genellikle babaanneciğimin evinde geçerdi. Annem, halam, yengem ve kuzenlerim. Anneler babaanneme yardımcı görevindeydi. Tabi o zamandan sonra çıraklar usta oldu. Maalesef aynısını 3. jenerasyon (ben, kardeşim ve kuzenlerim) için söyleyemeyeceğim. Anneciğim terziliği devraldı, ta ki.. Ne zaman ki tüfek icat oldu :P, ne zaman ki hazır giyim çok yaygın, daha çekici ve ekonomik oldu, dikiş makineleri aniden kenar süsü olmaya mahkum oldu.

Geçmiş hakkında okuduklarınız yeter değil mi? Birkaç gün önce, annem gönderdiği çok değerli hediyeleri ile aldı beni, yine götürdü çocukluğuma. Eteğim geçenlerde bahsettiğim bluzumla birlikte geldi. Arkadan yırtmaçlı kalem etek, saten kumaş üzerine minik gözlük desenleri. Tek bir prova bile yapmadan.. Söylüyorum size, işte canım annem bu kadar yetenekli ;)

Çocukluğumun unutulmaz parçalarından biri de annemin üzüm salkımı küpeleri. Seni çok ama çooooook seviyorum annem!

Damla - The Most Beautiful Beaded Collar

Look at this eye catching collar. I fell in love with it at first sight. Bold, beaded, jeweled, beautiful! You'll feel like your princess crown is on your shoulders. My cousin Damla is a true artist. I feel like I have to talk about her work more often here. She's been designing jewellery enthusiastically for years now. This is her passion. I have some pieces from her, and love to wear them. But, this was something new, brilliant, seducing, well at least to me, might be man repelling, though ;) At the end, for me, that is the whole idea :)) Oh maaan, I cannot pass without mentioning about her, I love manrepeller, go check it out!

All the stones and glass beads are hand-sewn.

She loves playing and knitting with all kind of beads, stones, metals, chains, you name it. And she just turned to embroidery and created some beautiful canvas work that turned out to be pins, earrings, and even belts.

Hey, I almost forgot to tell you that even Ece Sukan wears one of her bracelets!! Okay, I leave you with the slideshow above. Enjoy! She is about to create a blog and might sell her products online.

Bu yaka gözünüzü kamaştırmadı mı? Ben ilk gördüğümde aşık oldum. Cüretkar, taşlı, boncuklu, çok güzel! Taktığınızda prenses tacınızı omuzlarınızda hissedeceksiniz. Ortaya çıkaran kuzenim Damla, gerçek bir sanatçı. Tasarımlarından çok daha fazla bahsetmem gerekiyor burada. Yıllardır şevkle takılar hazırlıyor. Tam bir tutku onun için. Takmaya bayıldığım birkaç parça da bende var. Yalnız, bu diğerlerinden farklı, dahice, baştan çıkarıcıydı, tamam tamam belki benim için, belki erkeklere itici bile gelebilir ;) Ama sonunda benim için tüm amacı bu olabilir :)) Yok yok ondan bahsetmeden geçemeyeceğim, manrepeller tam bana göre, zamanınız varsa okumanızı tavsiye ederim.

Tüm taşlar elle dikilmiş yakanın üzerine.

Damla, taşlar, boncuklar, metal, zincir, aklınıza gelen hertürlü malzeme ile oynamaya, örgü tasarımlar yapmaya bayılıyor. Şimdi de nakışa başlayıp, kanaviçe ile yaka iğneleri, küpeler, hatta kemerler hazırladı.

Az kalsın bilekliklerinden birini Ece Sükan'ın taktığını söylemeden geçecektim!! Artık sizi yukarıdaki slayt gösterisi ile başbaşa bırakıyorum. İyi seyirler! Kendisi de yakında kendi blogunu yazmaya başlayacak. Ve kimbilir tüm takılarını internet üzerinden alabiliriz.

İşte yarına hazırlıklarım. Üstte tavuskuşu yaka iğneleri, altta ise çiçek, kuş ve kelebek taçlarım. Çok zamanım kalmadı. Sizi fotoğraflarla başbaşa bırakıyorum. Akaretlerde görüşmek üzere! Yarından başlayarak GalataModa yazıları yazmaya çalışacağım.

A Tale of a Wedding Candy

Started searching for something interesting when I promised myself for a good contribution to my sister's wedding last summer. They had already hired a wedding organization group and they were dealing with almost everything.

Then I decided to make the wedding candy wraps on my own. By the way, it was me again who made the candies, wedding memory book and pen with the loooong feather for my own wedding :) To do something by hand required significant time and human resource ;) I chose origami. Origami but what? What was I going to create with origami? After doing some research, I found out that there was an amazing Japanese tradition of making 1000 origami cranes just before the wedding night. Bride and groom are the ones who fold the cranes. Folding a crane takes time, patience and understanding. These same qualities are vital for a marriage to last. I actually cheated and changed the tradition a bit, made 300 of them by myself :) I have to give credit to Yagmur, my sister Buket, my brother Asım and my husband Bulut for their great help to put the pieces together. The difficulty with this was you cannot find origami papers in Turkey :( Anyways, cutting papers in different colors was fun as well.

The crane, symbol of honor and loyalty. And I put much deeper meaning with the selected colorful candies and Turkish delights. The whole composition wish them a colorful life with the pink, blue, green, yellow candies, pure forever love with the white almond candy, and soft, flawless relationship with the Turkish delights.

Geçen yıl bu zamanlarda, daha önceden de bahsettiğim kardeşimin düğünü için güzel birseyler yapmalıyım diye düşünüyordum. Düğün organizasyon şirketi tüm detaylarla ilgileniyordu.

Nikah şekerlerini yapmaya karar verdim. Bu arada kendi düğünümde de şekerleri, anı defterini, uzuuuun tüylü kalemi de ben yapmıştım :) Elde birşeyler yapmak uzun zaman ve yardım gerektiriyordu. Origamiyi seçtim, ama ne yapabilirdim? Kısa bir araştırmadan sonra, harika bir Japon geleneği olduğunu öğrendim. Düğün gecesine kadar gelin ve damadın birlikte 1000 tane turna katlamasını gerektiriyor bu gelenek. Turna katlamak zaman alıyor, sabır ve anlayış gerektiriyor. Herkes biliyor ki tüm du değerler bir evliliğin sürebilmesi için çok önemli. Aslında hile yapıp, geleneği biraz değiştirdim. Gelin ve damat yerine ben, 1000 tane değil 300 tane yaptım :) Yağmur, Bulut, kardeşlerim Buket ve Asım'ın şekerleri paketlemekte ve turnaları yerleştirmekte yardımlarını unutmamak lazım. Bu süreçteki en büyük zorluk, Türkiye'de origami kağıdı bulamamak oldu :( Olsun, farklı renklerde ve desenlerdeki kağıtları kesmek de ayrı zevkliydi.

Turna, onur ve sadakatin sembolü. Özenle seçilmiş renkli şekerler ve lokumlarla daha derin anlam eklemeye çalıştım. Bu derleme kardeşlerime (Buket ve Taner) içindeki pembe, mavi, yeşil, sarı şekerlemelerle renkli bir hayat, beyaz badem şekerleri ile saf sonsuz bir aşk, ve lokumlarla yumuşak ve sorunsuz bir ilişki diliyordu.

Weekend with Hair Accessories

Having inspired by the cherry blossom girl, I decided to make my own flower crowns. You sometimes get the best when you do it on your own. I happened to create some, I think, beautiful hairbands as well. Feathers, beautiful decorative birds, big buttons, and paper flowers.. I got daisy like flowers to make the crowns look like the ones I have been making by real daisies. Besides these, I will be making more in different color and flower varieties. The bird collection will be extended by peacocks, lovebirds, and doves.

The cherry blossom girl (kiraz çiçeği)'den etkilenerek ben de kendi çiçek taçlarımı yapmaya karar verdim. Bazen kendiniz yaptığınızda en güzeline sahip olabiliyorsunuz. Aynı zamanda tel taçları da süsleyerek bence çok şık saç aksesuarları yarattım. Tüyler, harika dekoratif kuşlar, büyük düğmeler ve kağıt çiçekler ile.. Çocukluğumdan beri yaptığım papatya taçlarına benzesin diye papatyaya benzer çiçekler bulmaya çalıştım. Bunlar dışında farklı farklı renklerde ve çiçeklerle taç yapmaya devam edeceğim. Kuş konmuş taç kolleksiyonumu da tavuskuşları, muhabbet kuşları ve güvercinler ile artıracağım.
