Started searching for something interesting when I promised myself for a good contribution to my sister's wedding last summer. They had already hired a wedding organization group and they were dealing with almost everything.
Then I decided to make the wedding candy wraps on my own. By the way, it was me again who made the candies, wedding memory book and pen with the loooong feather for my own wedding :) To do something by hand required significant time and human resource ;) I chose origami. Origami but what? What was I going to create with origami? After doing some research, I found out that there was an amazing Japanese tradition of making 1000 origami cranes just before the wedding night. Bride and groom are the ones who fold the cranes. Folding a crane takes time, patience and understanding. These same qualities are vital for a marriage to last. I actually cheated and changed the tradition a bit, made 300 of them by myself :) I have to give credit to Yagmur, my sister Buket, my brother Asım and my husband Bulut for their great help to put the pieces together. The difficulty with this was you cannot find origami papers in Turkey :( Anyways, cutting papers in different colors was fun as well.
The crane, symbol of honor and loyalty. And I put much deeper meaning with the selected colorful candies and Turkish delights. The whole composition wish them a colorful life with the pink, blue, green, yellow candies, pure forever love with the white almond candy, and soft, flawless relationship with the Turkish delights.

Geçen yıl bu zamanlarda, daha önceden de bahsettiğim kardeşimin düğünü için güzel birseyler yapmalıyım diye düşünüyordum. Düğün organizasyon şirketi tüm detaylarla ilgileniyordu.
Nikah şekerlerini yapmaya karar verdim. Bu arada kendi düğünümde de şekerleri, anı defterini, uzuuuun tüylü kalemi de ben yapmıştım :) Elde birşeyler yapmak uzun zaman ve yardım gerektiriyordu. Origamiyi seçtim, ama ne yapabilirdim? Kısa bir araştırmadan sonra, harika bir Japon geleneği olduğunu öğrendim. Düğün gecesine kadar gelin ve damadın birlikte 1000 tane turna katlamasını gerektiriyor bu gelenek. Turna katlamak zaman alıyor, sabır ve anlayış gerektiriyor. Herkes biliyor ki tüm du değerler bir evliliğin sürebilmesi için çok önemli. Aslında hile yapıp, geleneği biraz değiştirdim. Gelin ve damat yerine ben, 1000 tane değil 300 tane yaptım :) Yağmur, Bulut, kardeşlerim Buket ve Asım'ın şekerleri paketlemekte ve turnaları yerleştirmekte yardımlarını unutmamak lazım. Bu süreçteki en büyük zorluk, Türkiye'de origami kağıdı bulamamak oldu :( Olsun, farklı renklerde ve desenlerdeki kağıtları kesmek de ayrı zevkliydi.
Turna, onur ve sadakatin sembolü. Özenle seçilmiş renkli şekerler ve lokumlarla daha derin anlam eklemeye çalıştım. Bu derleme kardeşlerime (Buket ve Taner) içindeki pembe, mavi, yeşil, sarı şekerlemelerle renkli bir hayat, beyaz badem şekerleri ile saf sonsuz bir aşk, ve lokumlarla yumuşak ve sorunsuz bir ilişki diliyordu.
